Make a list of the items first: group them accordingly to how you will organize them inside the storage unit. Containers and boxes should be of the same size, and strong enough to allow stacking.
Plan what you will store: prioritize your items that you will want frequent access to. Heavy and odd-sized items should be at rear, fragile things on top. Wrap your items to avoid staining and keep everything clean. Disassemble large pieces of furniture. Consider keeping a small ladder in your unit for reaching things.
